Characteristics of different types of blades

All purpose

If you are looking for a handsaw that can cut all sorts of different materials, this would be the one to choose. They have medium size teeth pitch, and you can cut timbers, green wood, and even plastic. They are not suited for cutting certain materials such as metals. Please check our indications for what you can cut with our all-purpose saws.


Our Timberman's handsaw is ideal for cutting composite panels and timbers. You can cut fast. The teeth pitch is medium sized, so you could also use this as an all purpose saw.

Bamboo saws

Our bamboo saws have special teeth edges for cutting bamboo fibers. Also since bamboos are hollow inside, special teeth with smaller teeth pitch for bamboo makes clean cuts. They are not ideal for cutting green wood, but you can use them to cut timbers and dead wood. If you are pruning bamboos, we recommend our bamboo saw with a sheath. If you would like to use them for both pruning and bamboo craft, we recommend our bamboo saw with a straight handle. If you'd like to use it only for bamboo crafts for intricate work, we recommend our Dozuki extra fine saws and Dozuki saws.

Green wood

The teeth pitch increases as it gets towards the tip of the blade. With such characteristic, you can make smooth and easy cut to start with, and powerful cut as you start cutting with full strokes. The teeth have sets, so it's suited for pruning.
Our Green wood pruning saws are more for pruning and landscaping. Our Pruning saws are more for pruning and felling in the forest by professionals. Our fruit saws are ideal for pruning fruit trees.


Our Sentei saws do not have set. Saws with no set will give you cleaner cutting surface. It prevents damaging the tree. The blade is tapered, and it works just like a set, but it's not suited for cutting in vertical motion. We recommend Sentei saw for felling in the forest, especially for professionals, green wood saws for general pruning and landscaping, and fruit saws for fruit trees.

Fruit tree

Fruit trees in farms have thin branches and trunks, because they are pruned every year. Our green wood saws and Sentei saws would shake these thin branches because they have large teeth.
Fruit saws have medium size teeth, and it prevents shaking branches while you prune. Our Megumi fruit saws were developed together with fruit farmers in Japan.

Curved saws

Our curved saws have no set, instead the blade is thick and tapered. You can make powerful cut with a curved blade. Just like our green wood saws, it's ideal for pruning general trees.
Please choose from Namaki, Sentei, Kaju, and Curved saw based on what kind of tree you'd like to cut. Please also check our compatible blades.


Plastic materials don't have fibers unlike timbers. Therefore they have special teeth for cutting plastic. Our plastic saws with 0.3mm blade thickness can also be used for wood working for making cross cuts and rip cuts. It's ideal for cutting harder wood such as decking materials.


We categorize our saws with 0.3mm blade thickness with straight handle and teeth pitch smaller than 1.5mm as Dozuki. They are ideal for wood working that requires intricate work as well as for bamboo crafts.

Dozuki extra fine

Our Dozuki extra fine saws have smallest teeth pitch, 1.0mm. Their structure is traditional style Dozuki in which the blade is firmly attached to the handle with a full back metal.
Its cutting width is smaller than that of Dozuki. We have three types of Dozuki saws. One is the standard Dozuki. The second one has wider blade, which let you cut timbers up to 6cm. The third one is Tatebiki Noko Dozuki Style in which they have rip cut teeth. They are for both cross cutting and rip cutting.

Wood working

Our wood working saws are for carpentry work and DIY. We broadly categorize them in two groups, single edge wood working saws and double edges wood working saws. Our wood working saws have small teeth pitch, which gives you cleaner cutting surface. Double edged saws have cross cut teeth on one side and rip cut teeth on the other. Our double edges saws Komame can be used as Dozuki saws.

Double edges

Our double edges wood working saws can be used for carpentry work and DIY. They have both rip cut teeth and cross cut teeth. Our wood working saws have small teeth pitch, which gives you cleaner cutting surface. Our double edges saws Komame can be used as Dozuki saws.
*Our 1151 Flush Cutting Saw Double Edges have cross cut teeth on both sides.

Rip cut

Rip cut saws are ideal for making tenons. You can use rip cut saws to make cross cuts. It can also be used as plastic saws. Rip cut teeth are tougher than cross cut teeth, so it's ideal for cutting hard wood such as decking materials.

For general use

Teeth is suited for cutting timbers, bamboos, and plastic. You could use it for craft working with children.

For green wood

Cutter saw for green wood. Teeth pitch is bigger than our regular hand saws. It could replace pruning shears. It's for pruning fruit trees and landscaping. It's small, so it's easy to carry around with you.

For recycling

Our recycle saws have special teeth for cutting plastic bottles, cardboards, and milk cartons.

For cutting metals

Please use it for cutting wires and aluminum materials. We only harden the teeth edge, so the blade won't break.

For gardening

We recommend gardening saws for easy use at home.

For cutting roots

Ideal for transplanting, replacing your lawn, and cutting roots.
